    Here’s what happened today

We will be closing this live page soon. Here is a recap of today’s main news:

    • At least 35 people were killed during Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medics said, with nearly half of the deaths in northern areas where the army has waged a monthlong siege.
    • The Palestinian Civil Defence says that more than 100,000 people in northern Gaza are without food, water and medicine.
    • Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, says Israeli forces bombed the children’s floor, the nursery department and water tanks in the health facility.
    • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking from Israel’s border with Lebanon, says Hezbollah must be pushed back beyond the Litani River, with or without a ceasefire deal in place.
    • Hezbollah says it launched a barrage of missiles at an Israeli military base in the northern coastal city of Haifa.

Child severely injured as tank fires on Gaza hospital

Health officials at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya in besieged northern Gaza say the facility came under Israeli tank fire and one child who has been hospitalised has been critically wounded.

Hussam Abu Safia, the hospital’s director, said the incident took place after a delegation from the World Health Organization visited the facility and evacuated some patients.

While evacuating the wounded is important, it’s more important to dispatch specialised medical teams to north Gaza hospitals that have become overwhelmed by the number of casualties during Israel’s monthlong ground incursion, he said.

Abu Safiya said the tank fire hit water supplies, the courtyard and the neonatal intensive care unit.

Israeli killed in Hezbollah rocket attack in Nahariya

An Israeli settler has died from wounds sustained from a Hezbollah rocket attack in the northern city of Nahariya last week.

Israel’s Army Radio said the unnamed man, 57, was injured by shrapnel from a rocket fired by Hezbollah into the city on October 23.

On that day, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets on Nahariya and the Western Galilee region.

Last week, seven civilians were killed in one day by rocket fire in Metula and near Haifa, in one the deadliest days of the war for Israel.

‘We have been abandoned by the whole world’

Dr Hussam Abu Safia, director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, described the challenges he’s facing in treating the many wounded Palestinians seeking care.

“In this war, we’ve had to learn to do everything. As Israeli forces stormed the hospital and detained the entire medical staff, I, together with my assistant physician, we were left alone between a rock and hard place, either to give up or start doing what we can to save lives,” Abu Safiya told Al Jazeera.

“We’ve been flooded with victims suffering all kinds of injuries… I have a message for the world – not only to the WHO, the Red Cross and the international community – but also to the proponents of international law and all those who pontificate on humanity and human rights: An urgent humanitarian passage must be opened without delay to have fuel and medical supplies delivered, and also to allow for specialised medical staff to come and lend a helping hand.

“We have been abandoned by the whole world and left to work under unimaginably harsh and horrifying conditions.”

Two killed, others injured, after Israeli attack on northern Gaza

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic report that two Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli attack on a house in Beit Lahiya.

The UN has described the situation in parts of northern Gaza as “apocalyptic” as Israel continues to block humanitarian aid and launch attacks from the ground, air and sea.

US government has ‘legal duty to stop this genocide’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has denounced Israel’s continued destruction of homes and mosques in Gaza.

“By systematically destroying mosques, churches, schools, hospitals, and entire cities across Gaza while pursuing a campaign of extermination, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people, the far-right Israeli government – enabled and excused by a complicit Biden administration – is clearly guilty of the crime of genocide,” CAIR’s national executive director, Nihad Awad, said in a statement.

“Our government has the ability and legal duty to stop this genocide, regardless of President Biden’s remarkable indifference to human suffering and steadfast subservience to a genocidal foreign government.”

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reports that Israeli shelling of central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah, Nuseirat refugee camp and the az-Zawayda area also left dozens wounded from the Israeli attacks on Thursday night and into Friday morning. Most of those killed were women and children, Wafa said, as medical sources confirmed that 47 bodies were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah following the Israeli attacks. The majority of the victims were killed in the bombing of several houses in the Nuseirat area. The same houses were hit a second time when people rushed to rescue those who survived the first strike, leading to more casualties among the rescuers, Wafa reports. Search continues for people missing beneath the rubble, the news agency said.

    A Gaza child’s last will

Ten-year-old children are supposed to be busy playing with toys, doodling and hanging out with their friends, not writing a will in case they die.

No one in the family knew anything about a will from my 10-year-old niece Rasha, not until after we buried her in the same grave as her brother, Ahmed, aged 11, with half their faces gone as a result of an Israeli air strike on their home on September 30.

Yemen’s Houthis will keep blockade on Israeli vessels amid asset sale reports

Yemen’s Houthis say they’ll maintain their maritime blockade against Israeli vessels in response to “intelligence information” regarding Israeli shipping companies selling their assets to other firms.

Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson of the group, said in a televised address that the Houthis would not recognise any changes of ownership and warned against any collaboration with these companies.

The Houthis are an Iran-aligned group based in Yemen and have said their attacks are a response to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and the international community’s failure to put an end to it.

Viral video shows Lebanese woman’s love for piano in home destroyed by Israeli army

A Lebanese woman, Dr Julia Ali, expressed her sorrow after watching footage taken by Israeli soldiers showing them messing with and sitting on the piano she played for years in her home in the town of Khiam, in southern Lebanon.

Julia posted on her Instagram account a video verified by Al Jazeera showing her playing in the same place a year ago.

Below the video, she wrote, “Watching the place I called home turn to rubble is a pain too deep for words. This wasn’t just walls and a roof; this was years of my family’s dreams, sacrifices, and love built into a sanctuary. Now, to see invaders wandering through it, mocking it, touching the piano where I once poured my heart into every note… it feels like they’re trampling on pieces of my soul.”

She continued, “In the first video, a year ago, I’m playing a piece from a movie called ‘The Pianist ‘. Back then, I could never have imagined that my country would be living a tragedy so similar now.

“I end this reel with a video of me playing that piano in my homeland, in the home that once held my heart. I have hope that we will rise from this, rebuilding not just a house but a new chapter filled with resilience, strength, and the memories of all that was lost.”
