What did Trump say in his latest Truth Social post?
US President Donald Trump commented earlier on his Truth Social platform about clashes on Thursday between US and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz.
Here’s a summary:
- Trump said three US destroyers successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz while “under fire” from Iran and without sustaining damage.
- He claimed US forces destroyed the “Iranian attackers”, which included fast boats, missiles and drones that were targeting the US destroyers.
- Trump accused Iran’s leadership of being “lunatics” and warned Tehran would face more severe military action if it did not quickly agree to a deal.
- The US destroyers would rejoin a US naval blockade of Iran’s ports that he described as a “Wall of Steel”.
- He also said that he wants a peace deal with Iran “fast”: “We’ll knock them out a lot harder, and a lot more violently, in the future, if they don’t get their Deal signed, FAST!

US Central Command ‘insists’ clashes with Iranian forces ‘a self-defence measure’
Central Command out of Tampa, Florida, has issued a statement, and in it, they insist that this was a self-defence measure.
This statement is very consistent with what we’ve heard all week, as there has been escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio this week said that the United States will be acting in self-defence, and the US president essentially said the same thing in a Truth Social post in just the last couple of hours.
Like CENTCOM, he said the US has been very successful in the strait. They blame Iran for having to defend US interests, and what’s most interesting is there’s a real difference of opinion whether or not there is damage to US vessels.
Iran insists there was. The United States claims that is not the case.

US oil prices climb to $97 per barrel amid naval clash between US and Iran
US oil prices surged by as much as 3 percent early on Friday following a new outbreak of conflict between Washington and Tehran, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) later holding a gain of 2.58 percent ($2.45) to trade at $97.26 per barrel at 22:33 GMT.
The spike followed reports on Thursday of the US military clashing with Iranian forces, though Iranian officials accused the US of breaching the ceasefire by first attacking two Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and then bombing civilian areas on Iran’s coast.

Blasts rock Tehran after a period of relative calm
After a period of relative calm during tonight’s fragile ceasefire, we witnessed signs of escalation in Tehran, the Iranian capital.
We hear sounds related to the activation of the air defence system, and also the state news agency IRNA reported two blasts taking place in the Iranian capital.
In the southern areas of the country, we know that in the city of Minab, the governor came out to confirm attacks on a maritime base.
In the city of Bandar Abbas, as well, several explosions were reported. Meanwhile, they’ve got the joint military headquarters coming out to confirm the attacks on Bandar Khamir and Sirik.
Also, they said that US attacks have targeted two Iranian ships, one oil tanker and another vessel, which is sort of escalating the tensions in this already intricate situation.
The IRGC naval forces also said that three US destroyers were targeted in response to recent strikes.
Iranian sources say that, at this time, the situation appears normal.
But how far this level of normalcy is going to remain out there is something that we have to watch.

The US denial of a ceasefire violation is ‘very difficult’ for Iran to accept
Iranians will perceive the latest attacks by the US as an effort to create in the Gulf “what Israel has created in Gaza, in the West Bank and in Lebanon, in which a ceasefire is essentially unilateral”, Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, tells Al Jazeera.
Parsi said this would mean Iran is not able to do anything, “but if the US decides to shoot, then that is not, in and of itself, a violation of the ceasefire”.
“This situation may be more complex; there’s conflicting stories as to whether the Iranians started shooting first or not,” Parsi said.
“But the idea that something like this could be done, and saying that … it is not a violation of a ceasefire, is very difficult for the Iranians to accept, and it would be the same thing if the Iranians had done it and said that to the American side,” he said.
“Whether there is a chance to go back to a ceasefire and make sure that this doesn’t escalate any further is a different story … both of them probably have an interest in making sure that this does not get out of control,” he concluded.
