‘They are a better team and controlled the game’
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim spoke with Sky Sports as well: “We started very well, but in this moment, it is very hard to come back. We tried without the quality. They [Manchester United] don’t have the base to cope with difficult moments. They [Newcastle] are a better team and controlled the game.
“We had a chance to change the momentum, but everything they did was like a team. If I think there is something to change the result, then I would do it. I think it is more of the players and their belief. In this moment, we don’t have the base, and in a difficult moment, you need that base to cope.
“[On what United need to bounce back] Training. Just using every minute of training to try and improve. To try and give them that base to cope with every moment of the game. This is how we should work all the time.”

‘We had to keep the momentum going’
A visibly delighted Eddie Howe spoke with Sky Sports about Newcastle’s overall performance: “[On this being a statement victory] I don’t know about statement. For us, we knew we had to keep the momentum going which we built in recent weeks. I am very pleased we have done that, especially at a ground [Old Trafford] which hasn’t been kind to us in the past.
“I thought we played really well in the first half. Regardless of where we play, we have to stick to the same principles. We created good chances. Really pleased with that opening spell.
“I think he [Alexander Isak] is getting there. His goal was really pleasing and he was where he needed to be. Good to see him affecting games in the only way he can. We believe in him and his talent. He can really make the difference for us.
“I think we are moving in the right direction, defensively. We have had to chop and change early in the season. We have to shuffle that now with Fabian’s [Schar] suspension, so hopefully, we can make the necessary adjustments.
“Well, our direction now is to Tottenham. We have a difficult schedule ahead. I never like to make bold predictions as we have to prove everything after.
“[On the upcoming January transfer window] First thing is retaining the players we have. We don’t want to lose anyone. We have a good balance in the team. We have everyone fighting for places and don’t want to disturb that.”

‘Performance was really good, offensively and defensively’
Alexander Isak, who scored the first goal after just four minutes, shared his thoughts with Sky Sports: “I think we got off to a good start. Got two goals so it was a comfortable start. Then it was about closing it.
“I think the performance today was really good, offensively and defensively. I think we have good quality when we win the ball to counter. It starts off with the press, and doing so with intensity.
“When we win the ball, we go forward straight away. We scored two beautiful goals and it is a good feeling. Yeah, the ball took a bit of a deflection. My job is to be in the box when the ball is there.
“I feel good. I think we are playing really good at the moment. I am feeling confident as well.”

United’s woes continue
It has been a horrid December for the home side. It is now five defeats in the opening eight league matches for Amorim, which is unprecedented in the rich history of Manchester United.
Newcastle make their way to the opposing fans’ section as they enjoy a rare victory at the Theatre of Dreams.
Despite dominating the possession and having 10 total shots, United only had one solitary chance on target.
Newcastle looked the part from the get-go, and despite having average phases of play at times, ensured they saw it through after going up two goals inside of the opening 20 minutes.
