Hurzeler talks about Brighton’s ‘long-term process’
“The game we want to play is intense, [we want to] press high. If you want to attack the box, you need to invest in deep runs. We’re not where we should be, but it’s a process,” Hurzeler added.
“We have to accept [the result], keep working hard and do better than we did before. We need a lot of physicality for [our] kind of game. We were not able to hold that physical level for 90 minutes. We’re still working on that.
“It’s not that easy to make the players fitter, but it’s a long-term process.”

Brighton manager Hurzeler emphasises on consistency
“I feel like I have to repeat myself all the time, which is a disappointing feeling. In the first half, we weren’t as intense as we wanted to be. After the goal, it was much better. The big word for us is consistency,” Brighton boss Hurzeler told Sky Sports.
“When we look at Arsenal’s chances, they had one [big opportunity] during the game. Of course, they were always dangerous from set pieces. We did well to come back but weren’t clean enough in the final third. Against Arsenal, you need to use your momentum to win the game.”

Not the right time to think about title race, says Calafiori
“It’s not a big loss. We have to keep going now and win the next game,” added the Arsenal defender.
“It’s not the moment to think too much about the title. We need to focus on ourselves.”
- 4 Jan 2025 - 20:07(20:07 GMT)
Arsenal could have managed the game better, says Calafiori
“I think we felt we could have done a bit better to manage the game and [manage] the goal we scored in the first half. We should have scored another one,” Calafiori told Sky Sports.
“I don’t know why we made so many stupid mistakes, but the good thing is that we play again in three days [against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup].”

Arteta fuming over penalty call
“We’re also very disappointed with the penalty and the way it was given,” Arteta said, referring to the penalty awarded to Brighton following a clash of heads between Pedro and Saliba in the box.
“I’ve never seen that in my life, and Saliba touches the ball so it’s never a penalty for me.”

Arteta ‘disappointed’ after Arsenal drop points at Brighton
“Disappointed because we want to win the game, and we started with some good actions and a really good goal,” Arsenal manager Arteta said.
“We knew it was going to be competitive and challenging. But we did compete, and it wasn’t our best day.
“We’re playing every three days as well, and today we lost too many simple things. Doing the simple things, we have to do them right, and today wasn’t to those standards.”

Talking about his spot-kick, Pedro said: “I tried to control the ball and then [Saliba] hit me. It’s good that I scored.
“I always try to be positive with goals and assists. I like the feeling [of scoring] and hopefully, I’ll score more.”

‘Brighton could have won,’ says goalscorer Pedro
“We started the game well. We could have won but got a point. We need to look forward,” said the Brighton forward.
“We conceded in the first half but knew we could win this game.
“We tried to score at the beginning of the second half. We wanted to win,” he added.

‘We did quite well’, says Brighton’s van Hecke
“I think we did quite well. We shouldn’t have conceded the first goal. That shouldn’t happen to us, but you can see a lot of character in the boys. We need to be more consistent,” van Hecke told Sky Sports.
“We have a really young team. The average age of our team is 23. It’s tough sometimes, but our guys fight for everything. Maybe you need a bit more experience to manage the game.
“In some parts, we are really good. Consistency is an important thing for us to get back where we need to be.”

Recap: Arsenal stutter in title race with 1-1 draw at Brighton
An early goal from Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri was cancelled out by a penalty from Joao Pedro as Brighton & Hove Albion held the misfiring Gunners to a 1-1 Premier League draw on Saturday that dented the visitors’ title hopes.
Arsenal are second in the table on 40 points after 20 games, five behind leaders Liverpool, who host Manchester United on Sunday as one of their two matches in hand on their closest challengers. Brighton are 10th on 28 points.
Nwaneri scored 16 minutes into his second Premier League start, the 17-year-old breaking down the right and cutting inside before confidently drilling a low shot past Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton struggled to create scoring chances but they were much improved in the second half and Pedro won a penalty which he converted in the 61st minute to grab a share of the spoils for his side.

Arsenal again drop points against Brighton
This is the second time this season that Arsenal have dropped points against Brighton, having played out a 1-1 draw with the Seagulls at home.
A 10-man Arsenal team drew with Brighton in August when Havertz’s opener was cancelled out by Pedro. Rice picked up a red card in that game at the Emirates.
