A worrying trend for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid head to Munich in midweek needing to win the game to have any chance of going through to the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
They may well have to change the below trend if that’s to happen …
0 – Real Madrid have failed to score in the first half of each of their last four matches in all competitions, their worst run without a first-half goal since September 2024 (six).

A frustrating night for Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe had his chances against Girona, but the French superstar was found wanting when his side needed him most.
The Frenchman got into some great areas but either took too many touches or snatched at his efforts and cut a frustrated figure at full-time as the teams trudged off.
Vinicius Jr also put in a below-par display, and Real Madrid will need both of them to be back to their best against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

All eyes on Munich
Next up for Real Madrid is the crucial second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Los Blancos head to Bavaria, trailing 2-1 from the first leg. And with the league title now Barcelona’s to lose, Real Madrid’s season rests on beating Bayern in their own backyard.
Can they do it? Of course they can, it’s Real Madrid. But tonight’s display hardly left their fans brimming with confidence.

A very valuable point for Girona
Few were expecting Girona to come away from the Spanish capital with anything other than a loss tonight, but Michel’s side thoroughly deserved their point.
After riding out what was a rough opening 10 minutes, Michel’s side changed their tactical shape and caused Real Madrid plenty of headaches.
The draw keeps them in 12th place, and takes them to 38 points for the season – nine clear of the relegation zone.

A season-defining result for Real Madrid?
It’s a frustrating evening at the Bernabeu for Real Madrid, and it could well be the result that seals another La Liga title for rivals Barcelona.
Despite taking a 51st-minute lead through Fede Valverde, Girona grabbed a deserved equaliser through Thomas Lemar 10 minutes later, and the hosts just couldn’t find a late winner.
The draw leaves Real Madrid six points behind leaders Barcelona, who face Espanyol later this round.

Full time! It ends all square
The referee sounds his whistle slightly before the six minutes of additional time are completed here at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the whistles and jeers ring out around the stadium.
The home crowd aren’t happy with the point, but Girona are worthy of the draw. Real Madrid just couldn’t find the attacking spark needed to take all three points.

Time is running out
Girona are doing their best to eat up the clock here as Rincon goes down after a tussle with Vinicius Jr.
Real Madrid win the free-kick, but again, it amounts to nothing.

It’s all happening here …
Vinicius Jr wins a free kick on the Girona left, but while we’re waiting for that to be taken, Mbappe is down receiving treatment inside the box after he was caught on the chin in that earlier penalty incident.
The referee says no VAR review will take place, and Arda Guler eventually hits the one-man wall with a poor free-kick.

Chance for Mbappe!
On the run, Mbappe collects the ball on the inside right of the Girona box, cuts inside his man with a brilliant first touch before firing a left-footed shot straight at the goalkeeper, who palms it away.
Thirty seconds later, the Frenchman then goes down inside the box wanting a penalty, but the referee says no.
Mbappe has endured a frustrating night at the Bernabeu.

Girona are going for it!
Girona have themselves rolled the dice in a bid to find a winner and they’ve brought on veteran striker Cristhian Stuani, who turns 40 in October!
He replaces the injured Abel Ruiz while Fran Beltran is on in place of Martin.

Another roll of the dice for Real Madrid

Two more changes for Real Madrid
Real Madrid make two more changes, possibly with next week’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Bayern Munich in mind.
Off go Camavinga and Fran Garcia, with Tchouameni and Ferland Mendy replacing them.
Tchouameni is suspended for the midweek clash in Germany, so Camavinga is being spared the final 10 minutes.

Yellow card for Valverde
Real Madrid’s goalscorer Valverde goes into the book for a challenge on the edge of his own box as he bids to win a 50-50 challenge.
He wins the ball but catches his opponent with the follow-through, and Girona win a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the Real Madrid box, which ultimately amounts to nothing.

Girona are full of confidence
Right back Arnau Martinez finds himself on the edge of the Real Madrid box and tries an audacious effort with the outside of his right boot that flies harmlessly wide of the target.
That said, Girona look really comfortable here, and Real Madrid are the side who look slightly flustered.

More changes for Girona

Real Madrid pushing hard
Real Madrid are trying to up the ante here, and they’re camped on the edge of the Girona box.
Guler forces a corner after seeing his powerful shot cannon off a defender, but it amounts to little.
The home crowd then scream for a penalty for a foul on Mbappe, but nothing is given.
