US does not expect imminent Israeli strikes on Iran, Axios reports
The Axios news outlet is reporting that Netanyahu pushed back against Trump’s call not to respond to Iran’s attacks but “pseudo agreed” to stand down.
The outlet cited a US official familiar with details of the call.
“We think the president bought a little bit of time. He is pretty adamant that we are close to a deal with Iran. I don’t think anything is imminent in terms of an Israeli strike,” the US was quoted as saying.
“We are in a moment in time – that why jeopardize a potential deal when you are in the fourth quarter. The President thinks that we have been in this thing for three months – now is the time to end this thing,” the official added.

Iran signals restraint but warns of fiercer response if Israel retaliates
The IRGC has described the missile strikes as a warning shot, saying any Israeli response would trigger a more devastating and comprehensive retaliation.
This is clearly an indication that Iran does not intend to continue these missile strikes on Israel.
So while Iran is bracing for a possible response, its message is clear: We have kept our promise to the Lebanese people, and we have sent a strong message to Israel, and we are capable of sending a much stronger message if they continue.
The dynamic that Iran wants to set is that it is no longer something reciprocated between Iran and Israel. But that Israel has to stop its attacks on Lebanon.
The problem now is whether Israel is going to [retaliate]. It is under pressure from the American side not to do so.
If Israel does not respond to Iran, but continues to strike in Lebanon, then the purpose of tonight’s strikes from Iran will be void. Iran will not be satisfied with that, and its allies in Lebanon also will not see this as anything consequential.
If Israel stops its attacks in Lebanon, then this will be considered a great victory here in Iran, and Iran will consider it a step that can be built on for negotiations in Pakistan.

‘It’s clear that Trump is trying to rein Netanyahu in’
It’s clear Trump wants to keep this to a moment rather than something that derails the peace talks.
We are told – although the White House has offered no confirmation at this point – that Trump has spoken to Netanyahu in the last couple of hours. We know they had a conversation last Monday. We know that didn’t go well. Trump himself confessed that he swore at Netanyahu about his operation in Lebanon, and told him he had to rein that in.
It appears that the phone call that happened in the last couple of hours certainly followed that pattern. He told Netanyahu that both sides had had their fun in the words that he used, that the Iranians had had a strike, the Israelis had had a strike, and now, they had to stop it, because he sees this as a threat to a potential peace deal.
And he’s spoken to a number of journalists and said that a peace deal with the Iranians could happen next Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday – the next three days.
So it’s clear that Trump is trying to rein Netanyahu in. The problem Netanyahu’s got, he has opposition politicians, like Naftali Bennett, saying that if Netanyahu does what Trump asks him, then it’s clear that Israel is no longer a sovereign state.
And Netanyahu will do what Trump wants. Remember, Trump is much more popular in Israel than Netanyahu, and Netanyahu needs that level of support, that connection with the White House, to ensure electoral success in what is likely to be a very tough-fought election later this year.
