Rohit ends retirement speculation
India captain Rohit Sharma ended all speculation about his potential retirement from one-day internationals in the post-match news conference.
Rohit and Virat Kohli both announced their retirements from T20 internationals upon winning the T20 World Cup last year, it lead to rumours that something similar may happen in Dubai on Sunday.
“One more thing,” Rohit said at the end of the news conference. “I’m not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward.”
That appears to pave the way for the right-hander to lead India at the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

A fine stat from the final
105 - @ImRo45 and @ShubmanGill's 105-run stand is the 3rd century-opening partnership in a Champions Trophy final, following Sourav Ganguly & Sachin Tendulkar's 141 vs NZ in 2000 and Azhar Ali & Fakhar Zaman's 128 vs IND in 2017. Synergy.#INDvNZ #ChampionsTrophy pic.twitter.com/eEpljj6JgA

Am amazing performance from India to win the #ChampionsTrophy against a very determined New Zealand side, which never gave up. Well done also to Rohit Sharma on leading his team to consecutive @ICC men's trophies, following last year's @T20WorldCup victory. pic.twitter.com/S5CGYFf2Rs

What’s next for India?
The dust has barely even begun to settle on tonight’s victory for India, but as is the nature of modern cricket, there’s always another game on the way.
The national team will have a bit of the break as the Indian Premier League takes centre stage, but they will be back in action in June for a tour of England.
They’ll play five tests, starting on 20th June in Leeds.

‘They made it our home ground’
Just ahead of that presentation, Rohit Sharma gave another interview to the TV cameras.
He started by thanking the India fans in Dubai:
“I want to appreciate everyone who came and supported us. The crowd here has been magnificent. It’s not our home ground, but they made it our home ground. To get that result in the end was very, very satisfying.”
On India’s bowling effort: “Not just this game, but right from the beginning. Our spinners in particular. There’s too many expectations on them on a pitch like that, but they never disappointed. We used that to our advantage and we played some really good cricket throughout the tournament.”
On Rahul’s innings: “He has a very, very solid mind and never gets overawed by the pressure. That is one of the reasons we wanted to have him in that middle phase. With his experience and class, there is a bit of calmness when he bats. He picks the right shot to play in the pressure situations. That allows the other guys who are batting around him to bat freely.”
On Chakravarthy’s performance: “He has got something different about him. When you play on a pitch like that, you want the batsmen to force on him and that’s where he becomes a lot more dangerous. When he played New Zealand [in the group], he got five wickets and you saw the ability he has with the ball.”
