‘I completely reject this decision’: Palestinians react to UN resolution
Al Jazeera has spoken to Palestinians in Gaza City about the UN Security Council’s endorsement of Trump’s plan for the enclave.
“I completely reject this decision,” said Moamen Abdul-Malek. “Our people … are able to rule ourselves. We don’t need forces from Arab or foreign countries to rule us. We are the people of this country, and we will bear responsibility for it.”
Mohammed Hamdan said the plan, which would see the establishment and deployment of an international stabilisation force to demilitarise the territory, was not in the interests of Palestinians.
“It would strip the resistance of its weapons, despite the fact that resistance is a legitimate right of peoples under occupation.”
Sanaa Mahmoud Kaheel said Palestinians rejected the decision, which would bring uncertainty to Gaza.
“They initially said the Palestinian Authority would take control of the Gaza Strip, and we were enthusiastic about that. But things will be unclear with the international forces, and we do not know what might happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow with them being in Gaza,” she said.
“This could help Trump tighten his grip on Gaza and work towards establishing a ‘riviera’ there, as he himself said before. Nothing is guaranteed.”

More on the car-ramming incident in the occupied West Bank
A 40-year man has been killed. Three others are injured, including a woman described as being in a critical condition.
The attack happened between Hebron and Bethlehem. This is a very big junction where there are a series of illegal Israeli settlements.
The car rammed into Israeli settlers. One suspected attacker is reported to have gotten out and started stabbing people in the area.
We’ve seen pictures showing at least two bodies on the ground. They are believed to be the attackers. We don’t have confirmation of their identity.
That same area has also been the focus of increased Israeli settler attacks. We’ve seen settlers torching homes and properties across the Bethlehem area in the past few days, causing injuries and bringing tensions to an all-time high this month.

Israeli forces injure protesters, Al Jazeera journalist near Nur Shams refugee camp
The incident happened near the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem. This is a camp that the Israeli army has taken over since the beginning of the year, dispossessing the entire population of the camp.
The families who have now been displaced for almost a year have been trying to go back to their homes. They’ve been stopped every time.
This time was no different: the Israeli army attacked the families; they attacked the journalists involved in covering the protest as well.
They shot at and injured our cameraman and detained another cameraman who works for a different broadcaster.
Other people were also injured, including a 12-year-old child who is suffering from shrapnel wounds to the neck.
The Israeli army has renewed the closure of the camp and has barred anyone from entering it and reclaiming their properties.

Israeli military demolishes Palestinian home east of Jenin
The Israeli army has demolished a Palestinian home and another building with bulldozers east of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, the Al Jazeera team on the ground is reporting.
The buildings were in the village of Jalbun, 13km (8 miles) east of the city of Jenin, and were demolished under the pretext of lacking a permit, the team reported.

‘I’ll be OK hopefully,’ says Al Jazeera journalist shot by Israeli soldier
Fadi Yassin, the Al Jazeera cameraperson who was shot and wounded by Israeli forces while covering a protest in the occupied West Bank earlier, says he will “hopefully be OK”.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Yassin said he was covering a demonstration by Palestinians in the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of the city Tulkarem, when the shooting took place.
“[They] were demonstrating to demand return to their homes,” he said. “After they were displaced 10 months ago, the refugees feel let down by everyone.”
Yassin said he had been standing to the side of the protest, filming with a colleague before going for some interviews.
“A soldier was shooting in the air. He then aimed for my legs. The bullet entered my left leg and exited my right.”

One killed by Israeli fire in central Gaza
A Palestinian has been killed by Israeli gunfire east of central Gaza’s Bureij refugee camp, a source at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital tells Al Jazeera.
The attack took place beyond the so-called yellow line demarcating territory under Israeli military control.

UN chief Guterres applauds Gaza resolution
The ceasefire plan backed by the UN Security Council is an important step towards long-term peace, the UN chief has said.
Antonio Guterres made the comment in a statement published by his spokesperson today, where he said: “It is essential now to translate the diplomatic momentum into concrete and urgently needed steps on the ground.”
After thanking countries including Egypt, Turkiye, Qatar and the US for their diplomatic efforts, Guterres stressed the importance of moving towards the second phase of the US ceasefire plan, “leading to a political process for the achievement of the two-state solution, in line with previous United Nations resolutions”.

UN’s resolution’s vagueness on future Palestinian state ‘cause for concern’
The UN-approved Gaza resolution’s lack of guarantee for an independent Palestinian state leaves “a good deal of cause for concern”, an analyst has warned.
Mohamad Elmasry, a professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, told Al Jazeera that no “meaningful path forward” towards Palestinian statehood had been established.
“They’re saying that if certain conditions are met, which are by no means a given, then there might be a path forward,” Elmasry said.
“Not only is there no mention of the international consensus, but there’s also no mention of the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. There’s no mention of the siege of Gaza or how you would begin to bring about a viable Palestinian state without addressing these root causes.”
Elmasry said it was “interesting” that he had not seen any Palestinian civil society organisation come out in support of the resolution. Al-Haq, the largest of them, had spoken out against it, he noted, adding that it “speaks volumes”.

Israeli opposition figure slams UN resolution on Gaza
While the Israeli government has welcomed the UNSC’s endorsement of Trump’s plan for Gaza, the resolution has prompted sharp criticism from Israeli opposition figures, adding to the pressure on Netanyahu’s fragile coalition.
Avigdor Lieberman, the ultranationalist leader of the opposition Yisrael Beytenu party, slammed the resolution, describing it as a blow to Israeli sovereignty that would make the country less secure.
“We have lost control over the country,” he wrote in a post on X.
“International forces on sovereign Israeli territory, curtailing our ability to defend ourselves and tying the hands of the [Israeli military], is a return to the Mandate period,” he said, referring to the decades prior to the 1948 establishment of the state of Israel when Britain administered the territory under the authority of the League of Nations.
He declared that his party would win the next elections to “return control of the Land of Israel to the people of Israel”.

Russia says stabilisation force ‘reminiscent of colonial practices’
Russia’s UN ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, has explained why his country abstained from the vote on the US resolution, expressing concerns about how it sidelines Palestinian participation and accusing the US of not acting in “good faith” to get it passed.
“The main thing is that this document shouldn’t become a fig leaf for unbridled experiments conducted by the US in Israel, in the occupied Palestinian territory,” Nebenzia said.
Nebenzia expressed concern that the resolution didn’t include information about how the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) would work together with the Palestinian Authority.
Under the resolution adopted, Nebenzia said, the force “would appear to be able to act absolutely autonomously without any regard for the position nor the opinion of Ramallah”.
“This may entrench the separation of the Gaza Strip from the West Bank. It is reminiscent of colonial practices and the League of Nations British Mandate for Palestine when the opinion of Palestinians themselves was not taken into account,” the Russian envoy told the council.
He also expressed concerns that questions remain about the force’s mandate under Trump’s plan, including whether its “peace enforcement tasks” could “actually transform it into a party to the conflict going beyond the confines of peacekeeping”.

Palestinian FM condemns Al-Majd flights out of Gaza
During a trip to Manila – the first to the Philippines by any Palestinian foreign minister – Shahin has called flights taking Palestinians from Gaza to other countries illegal.
Shahin said the Palestinian Authority is still investigating Al-Majd Europe, aware that no one can get in or out of Gaza without Israel’s permission.
She said it is likely that Israel is allowing this and that this may all be part of Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign to displace Palestinians from the occupied Palestinian territory.
She is urging Palestinians in Gaza not to fall victim to this scheme.
